The first and most important thing to do in planning for incapacity, old age or disability is to talk to your family and your doctor. If your estate is large enough, you may wish to prepare a living trust, which allows you to manage your affairs while you are still able, and then appoints a successor trustee to handle matters when you are no longer able to do so.

A living Will sets out your wishes regarding your medical treatment. It can also spell out just how far you want your doctor to go in prolonging your life. You should also have a Will which states who is to receive your property upon your death.
